Before IVF Treatment
Before IVF Treatment: Preparations, Expectations, and Important Considerations
Before starting IVF treatment (In Vitro Fertilization – IVF), it often offers a highly effective solution for couples struggling with infertility. However, preparing both physically and psychologically before beginning treatment helps couples manage the process more effectively. In this article, we discuss what should be considered before starting IVF treatment, what to expect, and the preparation stages.
What Are the Stages of IVF Treatment Before Starting?
Every year, thousands of couples consult doctors to begin IVF treatment. The majority of couples are able to achieve pregnancy after starting treatment. Couples who are unable to conceive naturally first want to learn about the stages of IVF treatment.
Good communication between the couple and the doctor, along with detailed knowledge about the treatment stages, supports the expectant mother in remaining calmer and more patient throughout the process.

Initial Examination and Evaluation of the Couple
The IVF process begins when the couple visits the doctor. Many couples apply to our clinic stating that they have been unable to conceive and wish to begin IVF treatment. First, these couples must undergo examination and evaluation, because as with any medical condition, both the problem and the treatment are individual-specific.
Some couples may act hastily when deciding to start IVF treatment. They may apply for IVF after only a few instances of unprotected intercourse. However, as specialists, we recommend that couples attempt pregnancy for at least one year of regular unprotected intercourse before starting IVF treatment.
During the evaluation stage, many factors are taken into consideration, including test and examination results of both the prospective mother and father, as well as their ages.
The reports and tests commonly requested during the evaluation stage include:
Any surgical reports or medical notes
Semen analysis
Blood tests for both partners
Reports of any previous treatments
Hysterosalpingography (HSG – uterine X-ray)
Chromosome analysis
Reports related to any other existing medical conditions
Proper evaluation before IVF treatment increases the likelihood of success and ensures that the most appropriate treatment plan is created for the couple.
